Time to gear up for another awesome youth group year.  Open Cave begins next week!

Youth Scoop … Sept. ‘11

Coming Events ...
· September 18: Sunday School begins ... Junior & Senior High in the Cave following the Children’s Time in worship.
· September 20:   Open Cave Begins  5-8:00 PM
· September 23:   ASP Dessert & Pep Rally … a thank you celebration for those who supported ASP this summer.  7-9 PM
· September 25:  New Year’s Parent & Advisor Party! 5-7 PM
      You read it right.  We are beginning the youth ministry year with a dinner
       and informational gathering for parents and youth advisors.  This will be
       a really important opportunity to set the stage for a great year for our      
       youth and their families.  Please join us for a light dinner and good
       conversation.
· October 2, Youth Group Begins for both JH & SH … 4th Annual Great Race! 5-8 PM. … Parent / Adult drivers are needed to chauffer youth around the local area chasing clues and completing events! 
· October 23: DORNEY PARK HALLOWEEKEND FUN:  This is a great event for both Junior High and Senior High.  We will meet in the cemetery parking lot at 11:30 AM and will return by 9 PM.  We will need parent volunteers to chaperone this event.  Please sign up by contacting Linda Owens.  Space will be limited.  COST:  $30
· November 20:  Trip to the World Trade Center Memorial:  We will be traveling to NYC to see the WTC Memorial.  11:30 AM-6 PM.  More info to come soon.  Space is limited.
· December 2-4:  Youth Retreat for Junior and Senior High!

YOUTH GROUP SCOOP for May

Youth Group: With ASP orientations, the annual Coffeehouse, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day weekend, May is a crazy month for youth ministry. There is little, okay … no time for regular Sunday youth group gatherings, but you will still find us on Tuesday Nights for Open Cave and this month Open Cave will be very special … see below.
Weekends:
· First 4 weekends in May … ASP Stock Blitz, Saturdays at 6 PM and Sundays between services. Sign up to sell with Linda Casale lcasale4@aol.com
· May 14th: ASP Car Wash 9-2
· May 15th: ASP Parents Meeting from 5-6 PM …we encourage all participants to come to this meeting
Skills Training 6-7:30 PM … for all first timers!
· May 22nd: Coffeehouse & Silent Auction 4-7 PM in the PFC
Open Cave: The Cave is open for junior high and senior high youth every Tuesday from 5-8 PM for fellowship, dinner, homework, basketball, and just hangin’ out. This month our bible study time will focus on Autism and a discussion of the book, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark Haddon. Our Schedule is as follows:
· May 17: Tie Dye 30 Hour Famine t-shirts!
· May 24: Book Discussion: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time … 7-8
· May 31: Speaker: A student from Watchung Hills Regional High School who has Asperger’s Syndrome will share her story with us.
Coming this Summer for Junior High:
A.W.O.L.: A Work of Love is week-long junior high summer camp that focuses on mission work. All students who have completed the 5th grade through grade 8 are welcome to join us. The dates are June 27—July 1 from 9:30 AM until 3 PM. Registrations are available outside Linda’s office.

YOUTH SCOOP ... MARCH '11!

Open Cave runs from 5-8 PM for junior and senior high youth.  Dinner is served at 5 PM!

ASP Registration Packets are Now Available!  This year's Appalachia Service Project Trip for Senior hight youth will travel to the hills of West Virginia from July 2-10.  If you are interested registration packets are available outside Linda's office.
Registration is due March 28th.

ASP Kick-off Dinner, March 13 from 7-8:30 PM.  This is for all who are interested in ASP this summer AND their PARENTS!
Please make every effort to attend.

Confirmation:  it is that time of the year again.  Time to offer high school students a chance to explore faith and membership in the church.  Class will begin on Sunday, March 6 from 3-4:45 PM in the cave.  Confirmation will culminate on the weekend of June 11 & 12 with the meeting with the elders on Saturday and recieving of new members at the Sunday service at 10 AM (Pentecost Sunday.)  If you are in high school or your son or daughter is and you are interested int he confirmation program, please let Linda Owens know!

AWOL date announced:  This summers AWOL (A Work Of Love) program for middle school youth will be June 27-July 1 from 9:00-3:00.

Youth Group News:


Volunteers Needed!  The Deacons need help with the Blood Drive this Sunday from 9:30-2:30. 
Please sign up to take a one or two hour shift!

October 10:  Improving Our Image … work day and youth conference at
       The Brook Theater 12:45-5 PM.  Senior High Youth will gather at the
       Church and walk down to the Brook Theater to help paint the interior and to
       join with other area youth for a leadership conference.  Dress to paint! 
       Junior High will meet from 4-7 PM to work with Knucklehead Construction   
       to finish the picnic table their started this summer on AWOL.

            REMINDER:  Pamela & Cassey have signed up to help with Brook Theater Event!

October 17:  No Youth Group

October 24: DORNEY PARK HALLOWEEKEND FUN:  This is a great event for both Junior High and Senior High. 
We will meet in the cemetery parking lot at 11:30 AM and will return by 9 PM.

October 31:   Pre-Trick-or-Treat Gathering 3-5 PM:  Junior and Senior High

Open Cave is on Tuesdays: begins 9/22/2009

  • Open Cave 5:00 - 8:00 PM

Dinner is served at 5 PM followed by choir rehearsals, homework time or just hanging out. One Life Bible Study from 7-8 PM.

Parent volunteers are needed to cook dinners and to chaperone in the cave.
